E’ Madonna l’icona perfetta del segno del Leone: il coraggio del cuore
Il Leone può scegliere di essere generoso e leale con doti di leadership, oppure arrogante e vanaglorioso con indole da tiranno.

Nella trilogia dei segni appartenenti all’elemento Fuoco, il segno del Leone segue l’impulsivo e indomabile Ariete, e precede il Sagittario, il cui ardore è incanalato nella conoscenza e nella fede. Il Leone si radica nella stagione estiva, irradiando il massimo della luce e del calore, come un imperatore saldamente ancorato al suo trono.
Il suo pianeta maestro, non a caso, è proprio il Sole.
Nel glifo del Leone vediamo il cerchio che si apre in una curva che scatta e si impenna, come un raggio di sole o la criniera di un leone che si esprime in tutta la sua fierezza. Dove il Cancro si chiude come un guscio che protegge e culla la sua intima essenza, il Leone irradia magnificenza, liberando il proprio Io, portandolo alla pienezza della luce estiva.
Madonna, provocante e irriverente
Tra le tante icone nate sotto questo segno scelgo Madonna, provocante e irriverente indiscussa regina pop nell’Olimpo della musica fin dagli anni ‘80.
Pieno di vita e di calore com’è, il Leone è il leader per antonomasia: caloroso, generoso e spavaldo. È difficile ignorarlo perché si espone, emerge, primeggia e si impone. In ogni Leone esiste sempre il rischio di volare troppo alto, ma le sue possibilità di riuscita sono maggiori degli altri segni, perché emergere è l’obiettivo primario della sua vita.
In alchimia il Sole corrisponde all’oro, metallo perfetto e incorruttibile, e lo scopo della Grande Opera è trovare l’oro in ogni metallo pesante, e per analogia, lo scopo di ogni essere umano è provare gratitudine e fiducia nella perfezione e nell’incorruttibilità della propria e altrui essenza.
L’oro è in ogni metallo, così come l’energia è in ognuno di noi: in alcuni più dirompente, in altri più nascosta, soffusa. Il Sole è l’oro ed è l’Io, l’energia Yang e il Re, rappresentato nei complessi codici alchemici come un leone. È dalle culture primitive che il simbolismo del leone si accosta all’astro che con la sua energia dona la vita. Per via della sua natura forte e il colore della criniera, la maestosità del leone e il mese dell’anno in cui il sole splende più intenso formano un tutt’uno.

è come il ruggito del leone
Il Sole e l’energia del leone è un fil rouge che attraversa ogni pensiero religioso e filosofico. Le tradizioni gnostiche parlano di scintilla divina in ogni essere, sbaragliando la superiorità di un unico dio, il Dio delle religioni monoteistiche. Nel Buddismo il Gran Maestro T’ien-t’ai, studioso cinese del sesto secolo, scopre nel Sutra del Lotopredicato dal Budda Shakyamuni l’insegnamento più alto e definitivo, in cui si rivela che la buddità è in ogni essere. Secoli più tardi, Nichiren Daishonin, monaco giapponese prende a modello questo Sutra considerandolo il cuore dell’insegnamento buddista, affermando poi che Nam myoho renge kyo è come il ruggito del leone, così potente da muovere le forze protettive dell’universo.
La simbologia esoterica del sole e dell’oro, il tema gnostico della scintilla divina e quello psicologico dell’identificazione del proprio sé, il concetto di buddità e il coraggio indomito del Re Leone diventano i concetti chiave da cui si dirama il tema del Segno di questo mese.
Come ogni segno Zodiacale il Leone ha due facce, due modi di esprimere la propria potente energia da leader: o la manifesta nel modo generoso, leale, altruista e profondamente umano di chi riesce a integrare leadership e gentilezza, o fallisce travolto da una volontà di dominio che lo rende arrogante e vanaglorioso, come ogni tiranno sopraffatto dal timore di perdere la propria gloria.
I nativi del Segno passati alla storia sono Luigi XIV – il Re Sole -, Napoleone, Garibaldi, Mussolini, Simon Bolivar e Barack Obama. E in questa rosa di nomi illustri si esprimono le due nature del Segno.
Il mito del Leone in Androclo
Il mito del Leone si collega alla storia di Androclo, uno schiavo romano fuggito dal suo padrone. Disperato, egli si rifugiò in una caverna e lì fu raggiunto da un leone dall’aspetto feroce, ma sofferente per via di una grossa spina conficcata in una zampa. Il leone era quasi morente e Androclo ne ebbe compassione, gli estrasse la spina e lo curò. Poi riprese il suo cammino ma vide che il leone lo seguiva, riconoscente e mansueto. Ogni giorno il leone cacciava procurando il cibo per entrambi. Poi un giorno Androclo fu catturato e riconsegnato al suo padrone, che lo condannò a morte destinandolo al Circo Massimo dove avvenivano i sacrifici dei martiri cristiani e i combattimenti dei gladiatori.
Entrato nell’arena, il leone riconobbe il suo benefattore, si accucciò ai suoi piedi e leccò le sue mani e Androclo fu liberato a furor di popolo. L’autore del racconto, Aulo Gellio, narrò che egli andava in giro per Roma con il leone legato al guinzaglio, e tutti gli offrivano elemosine spargendo fiori al suo passaggio.
È il trionfo del cuore e della compassione, la maestosità dell’incontro tra la lealtà dell’animale e la purezza dell’animo umano.
Nel cielo del mese di Luglio Marte e Venere si trovano nel segno del Leone, portando un po’ di slancio creativo e amore ai nostri umori così provati dalla pandemia. Insieme a Saturno in Acquario e a Urano in Toro i Pianeti nel segno del Leone formano una croce di segni fissi, dall’identità forte, un’ amalgama di tensioni che già sentiamo fuori e dentro di noi e che si manifestano con radicalizzazioni e estremismi.

The Sun and the energy of the lion is a common thread that runs through every religious and philosophical thought. The Gnostic traditions speak of divine spark in every being, defeating the superiority of a single god, the God of monotheistic religions.
In Buddhism, Grand Master T’ien-t’ai, a sixth-century Chinese scholar, discovers in the “Loto Sutra” preached by the Shakyamuni Buddha, the highest and most definitive teaching, in which it is revealed that Buddhahood is in every being. Centuries later, Nichiren Daishonin, a Japanese monk, takes this Sutra as a model, considering it the heart of Buddhist teaching, then stating that the chantingof Nam myoho renge kyo is like the roar of the lion, so powerful as to move the protective forces of the universe.
The esoteric symbolism of the sun and gold, the Gnostic theme of the divine spark, the concept of identification of one’s self in psychology, the concept of Buddhahood and the indomitable courage of the King Lion become the key concepts from which the theme of this month’s Sign branches off.
Like any Zodiac sign, Leo has two faces, two ways of expressing his powerful energy as a leader: either he manifests it in the generous, loyal, altruistic and deeply human way of those who manage to integrate leadership and kindness, or he fails overwhelmed by a desire for domination that makes him arrogant and boastful, like any tyrant overwhelmed by the fear of losing his glory.

The myth of the Leo in Androclus
The myth of the Leo is linked to the story of Androclus, a Roman slave who escaped from his master. Desperate, he took refuge in a cave and there was joined by a lion with a ferocious appearance, but suffering from a large thorn stuck in its paw. The lion was almost dying and Androclus had compassion on him, pulled out the thorn and cured him.
Then he resumed his journey but saw that the lion followed him, grateful and meek. Every day the lion hunted and provided food for both of them. Then one day Androclus was captured and returned to his master, who sentenced him to death by assigning him to the Circus Maximus where the sacrifices of the Christian martyrs and the gladiatorial fights took place.
Entering the arena, the lion recognized his benefactor, crouched at his feet and licked his hands, and Androclus was freed by popular fury. The author of the story, Aulus Gellius, told that he went around Rome with the lion tied to a leash, and everyone offered him alms by spreading flowers as he passed.
It is the triumph of heart and compassion, the majesty of the encounter between the loyalty of the animal and the purity of the human soul.
In the sky of the month of July Mars and Venus are in the sign of Leo, bringing a bit of creative momentum and love to our moods so tried by the Covid 19 pandemic. Together with Saturn in Aquarius and Uranus in Taurus, the Planets in the sign of Leo form a cross of signs with a strong identity, an amalgam of tensions that we already feel outside and inside of us and that are manifested by radicalization and extremism.
