(English translation below)

The irrepressible optimism of Sagittarius

As an icon of Sagittarius, I chose Jane Fonda: American actress, television producer, model and activist.

I chose her because of her multifacetedness and revolutionary positiveness, which makes her the anti-diva par excellence, who find it hard to subjugate to concepts such as statics and containment, best expressing and enhancing the characteristics of the Sign.

Not only an actress, awarded with the Golden Lion for her career in 2017, but also a model for the whole range of anti-aging skincare, Jane Fonda has created an alternative to the physically perfect in the female imagination. From the 1980s she revolutionized the fitness industry, becoming a wellness businesswoman in video format. On the social front, from the late 1960s to today, she is a fervent activist, the protagonist of the pacifist movement against the Vietnam War. Nowadays she continues to be the protagonist of the environmental struggle of Fridays for Future, and even at the age of 82, she is able to make revolutions involving the very young generation on Tik Tok from which she launches appeals for the environment, while performing her indoor training in the era of Covid 19.

Sagittarius is the sign of positiveness, optimism and faith as trust in mankind and in everyone’s ability to face obstacles and adversities of all kinds.

Enthusiastic and fearless, Sagittarius doesn’t fit to the banality and ordinariness of life: strong and persistent like all signs of Fire, its strength is rather flexible than hard, adaptable, and dynamic. Extremely able to understand, he doesn’t bear stasis, both physical and mental, and in every aspect of life he is nomadic: he likes proceeding without ever losing the goal that leads him towards new horizons. Sagittarius breaks patterns and overcomes limits, never becoming victim of evil, because actually, he doesn’t see the evil in anything and no one and even if he does, he tends to bypass the problem.

Unlike Scorpio, Sagittarius never dig into darkness. Among all the Signs of the Zodiac he is certainly the last to notice human deceptions, because he fully believes in mankind and even in that moments where he has to face obstacles, his deep aversion towards competition, revenge and violence leads him to see a free zone where he sees the possibility to create a wonderful new world. And he’s really able to create it! Pervaded by an inexhaustible thirst for study and knowledge, one of its primary goals is to build peace and well-being, both locally and globally. He has great ideals, given by the influence of the symbology of Jupiter, king of Olympus and its master planet.

His flaws can be an excessive enthusiasm, an ingenuous attitude and a perennial youthful unconsciousness that sometimes leads him to perform amazing actions that can change into haughtiness or superficiality.

He really can’t bear habit and mediocrity, perceived as chains.

In love relationships, he seeks the sublime and rejects conventions. He dreams of a nomadic life and is an eternal bohemian who can’t live without being surrounded by many friends, who share his same ideals, passions and projects. At work Sagittarius he is able to be a very dedicated person if he really finds a real passion, out of habit or duty. His social sense is well developed: he is ambitious and idealistic for himself and others, ready to inflame by every theme concerning justice in the world, freedom and honesty.

Symbol of the Sign is a centaur, whose body is that of a horse at the bottom, with its four legs well planted on the ground, and at the top is that of a man who raises his head pointing arc and arrow towards the sky. It is the man who is anchored in the stability of matter and at the same time looks beyond it, aspiring to a harmonious union between instinct and idealism. As a result of Scorpio’s sacrifice, which precedes him, Sagittarius transforms the sting into an arrow, sublimating the aggressive instinct into a spirit of rebirth.

His myth is related to the story of the centaur Chiron, son of Cronos. Unlike the other centaurs, Chiron is mild, wise, generous and a friend of mankind. Expert in medical art, he is able to heal both humans and animals. He teaches his students astronomy, the art of war and hunting, medicine and music. One day, beside Heracles in the battle against the evil centaurs, he is shot in the knee by a poisoned arrow. Being immortal, his wound is incurable and Chiron damns himself by desiring his own death. Zeus who deeply cares about him, frees him from his immense suffering by exchanging his immortality with Prometheus, and after his death transforms him into the constellation named Centaurus.

The time that goes from November 23 to December 21 closes the trilogy of the signs of fire, which began in March with the indomitable Aries, crossed the month of July with the grandiose and generous fire of Leo and now culminates in the winter fire of Sagittarius, whose flame is that of knowledge, wisdom and courage raised towards ideals, projects and illuminations, and finally closes this turbulent year 2020, animating us with an irrepressible and optimistic will to change.
