Quatuor Arod: quando 4 talenti creano un quartet esplosivo

Jordan Victoria, classe 1992, nasce in una famiglia di artisti e inizia a suonare il violino già all’età di 4 anni. A sette anni suona il suo primo concerto con orchestra. Considerato un vero prodigio, è il primo violino del Quatuor Arod.

Gli altri componenti del gruppo sono Tanguy Parisot alla viola, Jérémy Garbarg al violoncello e Alexandre Vu al secondo violino. Comincia a suonare in Vietnam all’età di 10 anni. Quando si trasferisce in Francia inizia la sua carriera nelle più importanti orchestre del Paese.

Sono loro i quattro musicisti del Quatuor Arod il cui ardore espressivo fa di questo quartetto una delle realtà più fresche ed interessanti dell’attuale panorama musicale concertistico da camera.

Si conoscono al conservatorio di Parigi, dove studiano con il violinista francese Jean Sulem e nel 2013 uniscono le loro diverse culture costruendo un quartetto di archi di grande vitalità. Non è un caso che il nome faccia riferimento proprio alla loro esuberante energia.

Infatti il nome Arod richiama l’impetuoso cavallo montato da Legolas senza sella né redini nella saga Il Signore degli anelli. Una figura mitologica che esprime l’ardore, la forza e lo spirito di libertà che questi quattro giovani percepiscono in sé e trasmettono al pubblico durante le loro esibizioni.

Vederli suonare è un’esperienza unica: l’energia che si trasmettono vicendevolmente, l’intesa perfetta che rifulge tra i loro sguardi, il modo in cui sincronizzano i movimenti dei loro archi a chiusura dei pezzi creando momenti di rarefatta sospensione, e non ultima la forza comunicativa delle loro interpretazioni trasformano ciascun concerto in una esperienza di ineguagliabile bellezza.

Nel 2014 vincono il prestigioso premio francese Fnapec riconosciuto ai migliori allievi di conservatori e scuole di musica. E’ solo il primo passo verso un’ascesa rapidissima: decidono di affidarsi agli insegnamenti del violinista e direttore d’orchestra Mathieu Herzog, con il quale migliorano la tecnica ed esplorano nuove possibilità interpretative. E forti di questa preparazione vincono la Carl Nielsen International Chamber Music Competition nel 2015.

Il BBC New Generation Artist nel 2017 e 2019 e l’ECHO Rising Stars per la stagione 2018/2019 sono gli altri riconoscimenti che consacrano il Quatuor Arod come quartetto d’archi tra i più richiesti nelle più prestigiose sale da concerto internazionali: dalla Filarmonica di Parigi alla Elbphilharmonie di Amburgo, dalla Wigmore Hall di Londra alla Berliner Philharmonie, dal Concertgebouw di Amsterdam al Bozar di Bruxelles, dalla Oji Hall di Tokyo alla Carnegie Hall di New York per la loro prima tournée negli USA.

I quattro album del Quatuor Arod

Quattro sono gli album all’attivo di questo quartetto d’archi: quello d’esordio è dedicato a Mendelssohn, altri due sono incentrati sulle composizioni di Schubert e sulla musica francese da Debussy a Ravel, ed uno è dedicato a Mathilde Zemlinsky, moglie del grande compositore austriaco Arnold Schönberg, uno tra i primi a scrivere musica fuori dalle regole del sistema tonale, nonché sorella del compositore e direttore d’orchestra austriaco Alexander Zemlinsky.

L’album è intitolato a Mathilde Zemlinsky perché fu ispiratrice del quartetto d’archi di suo marito N. 2, un’opera innovativa sia nel linguaggio tonale che nell’integrazione di un soprano, il cui ruolo nell’album del Quatuor Arod è interpretato dal soprano operistico franco-danese Elsa Dreisig.

Li abbiamo visti di recente in Italia, in occasione del Festival della Tuscia organizzato a ottobre nella città di Viterbo da un’idea di Vittorio Sgarbi. E li rivedremo in tournée in Europa tra dicembre e gennaio nei teatri di Francia, Germania e Paesi Bassi, per poi volare anche oltre oceano a febbraio 2024. Non lasciateveli sfuggire.

Quatuor Arod: when 4 talents
create an explosive quartet

They are beautiful, they are very young and they are talented. Let’s discover Quatuor Arod through the albums and upcoming concerts of this string quartet with explosive charm.

Jordan Victoria, born in 1992, was born into a family of artists and began playing the violin at the age of 4. At seven he played his first concert with an orchestra. Considered a true prodigy, he is the concertmaster of the Quatuor Arod.

The other members of the group are Tanguy Parisot on viola, Jérémy Garbarg on cello, and Alexandre Vu on second violin. He began playing in Vietnam at the age of 10. When he moved to France he began his career in the most important orchestras in the country.

They are the four musicians of Quatuor Arod whose expressive ardor makes this quartet one of the freshest and most interesting realities of the current chamber concert music panorama.

They met at the Paris Conservatory, where they studied with the French violinist Jean Sulem, and in 2013 they combined their different cultures by building a string quartet of great vitality. It is no coincidence that the name refers precisely to their exuberant energy.

In fact, the name Arod recalls the impetuous horse ridden by Legolas without saddle or reins in the saga The Lord of the Rings. A mythological figure who expresses the ardor, strength, and spirit of freedom that these four young people perceive within themselves and transmit to the public during their performances.

Seeing them play is a unique experience: the energy they transmit to each other, the perfect understanding that shines between their gazes, the way in which they synchronize the movements of their bows at the end of the pieces, creating moments of rarefied suspension, and last but not least the communicative strength of their interpretations transform each concert into an experience of unparalleled beauty.

In 2014 they won the prestigious French Fnapec prize awarded to the best students of conservatories and music schools. It is only the first step towards a very rapid rise: they decide to rely on the teachings of the violinist and conductor Mathieu Herzog, with whom they improve their technique and explore new interpretative possibilities. And thanks to this preparation they won the Carl Nielsen International Chamber Music Competition in 2015.

The BBC New Generation Artist in 2017 and 2019 and the ECHO Rising Stars for the 2018/2019 season are the other awards that consecrate the Quatuor Arod as one of the most requested string quartets in the most prestigious international concert halls: from the Philharmonic of Paris to the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, from the Wigmore Hall in London to the Berliner Philharmonie, from the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam to the Bozar in Brussels, from the Oji Hall in Tokyo to the Carnegie Hall in New York for their first tour in the USA.

The four albums of Quatuor Arod

This string quartet has released four albums: the debut one is dedicated to Mendelssohn, two others focus on Schubert’s compositions and French music from Debussy to Ravel, and one is dedicated to Mathilde Zemlinsky, wife of great Austrian composer Arnold Schönberg, one of the first to write music outside the rules of the tonal system, as well as the sister of the Austrian composer and conductor Alexander Zemlinsky.

The album is named after Mathilde Zemlinsky because she was the inspiration for her husband’s string quartet No. 2, an innovative work both in tonal language and in the integration of a soprano, whose role in the Quatuor Arod album is interpreted by the French-Danish operatic soprano Elsa Dreisig.
