Al Centro Pompidou di Parigi la mostra dedicata agli artisti che hanno contribuito a trasformare la rappresentazione della sessualità delle comunità LGBTQIA+.

Iniziata il 28 giugno, la mostra Over The Rainbow si protrarrà fino al 13 novembre 2023 presso il Centro Pompidou di Parigi. Nella quarta galleria del museo, al primo piano, si trovano più di 500 opere d’arte del Centro Pompidou, che nacque dai desideri di Georges Pompidou, presidente della Repubblica francese dal 1969 al 1974.
Georges Pompidou volle dedicare le sue attenzioni alla creazione di un’istituzione culturale nel centro di Parigi, così da segnare l’importanza della cultura e dell’arte nella sua capitale.
Da allora, il Centro Pompidou si dedica alla multidisciplinarità e all’educazione, con un grande spazio dedicato al design, alla musica, al cinema e alla lettura. Lo spirito innovativo dello spazio si tramanda attraverso gli anni, continuando adesso con la mostra Over The Rainbow.
La mostra racconta una storia vera, una storia umana. Dall’inizio del Novecento, l’arte fu un fattore essenziale per la rappresentazione della propria sessualità e di quella altrui. Infatti, attraverso l’arte, vari movimenti minoritari legati all’espressione della propria sessualità cominciarono a combattere per la propria libertà.
Oggi giorno, questi si ricordano nella lotta per i diritti della comunità LGBTQIA+, ma si ritrovano anche negli obiettivi di gruppi minoritari in giro per il mondo che lottano per avere il diritto di esprimere la propria identità.
La mostra Over the Rainbow raduna opere della Biblioteca Kandinsky nella quale si trovano libri illustrati, fotografie, riviste e pubblicazioni queer che, attraverso gli anni, trasportano il pubblico nello sviluppo dell’identità queer.
Inoltre, vi si trova un grande archivio della cultura visiva LGBTQIA+. Così si comincia un viaggio in un mondo sconosciuto per coloro che non conoscono le origini di questo movimento che anno dopo anno, continua a combattere e a farsi conoscere attraverso il mondo.
Visitando la mostra si incontra il salotto lesbico di Natalie Clifford Barney, ma anche opere di Jean Cocteau che risvegliano sensazioni erotiche, ed altre che raccontano la storia del desiderio gay, “l’omosessualità nera” di Jean Genet.
Si esplora anche la moda, gli stili che servirono l’espressione di queste sessualità, la ricchezza della letteratura e dell’arte che dominava la scena queer dell’ultimo secolo. Over The Rainbow si dedica allo svelamento di ciò che significa raccontare la propria sessualità, e in questo modo, collega i movimenti contemporanei alle loro origini, così da fare in modo che non perdano la propria essenza.

At the Pompidou Center in Paris, the exhibition dedicated to the artists who have contributed to transforming the representation of sexuality in the LGBTQIA+ communities.
From June 28th to November 13th 2023, the Pompidou Centre in Paris invites the public to the Over The Rainbow exhibition. In the fourth gallery of the museum, on the first floor, there are more than 500 works of art from the Pompidou Centre. The Centre was created from the wishes of Georges Pompidou, president of the French Republic from 1969 to 1974.
Pompidou wanted to devote his attention to the creation of a cultural institution in the centre of Paris to mark the importance of culture and art in its capital.
Since then, the Centre has dedicated itself to multidisciplinary approaches to education, with a large space dedicated to design, music, cinema and reading. The innovative spirit of the space has been handed down through the years, continuing its ambition with the Over The Rainbow exhibition.
The exhibition tells a true story, a human story. From the beginning of the twentieth century, art was an essential factor for the representation of one’s own sexuality and that of others. In fact, through art, various minority movements linked to the expression of their sexuality began to fight for their freedom. Nowadays, these are remembered in the struggle for the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community, but they also find themselves in the lenses of minority groups around the world who are fighting for the right to express their identity.
The exhibition brings together works from the Kandinsky Library in which there are illustrated books, photographs, magazines and queer publications that, over the years, transport the public in the development of queer identity. In addition, there is a large archive of LGBTQIA+ visual cultures.
In this way, a journey into an unknown world begins for those who do not know the origins of this movement which, year after year, continues to fight and make itself known throughout the world.
Continuing through the exhibition, one will find the lesbian salon of Natalie Clifford Barney, works by Jean Cocteau that awaken erotic sensations, others that tell the story of gay desire and Jean Genet’s “black homosexuality” amongst others.
The exhibition also explores fashion, the styles that served the expression of these sexualities, the wealth of literature and art that dominated the queer scene of the last century. Over The Rainbow is dedicated to revealing what it means to tell one’s sexuality, and in this way, it binds contemporary movements to their origins, so as to ensure that they do not lose their essence.
